Project FRESCO (Farmworkers Reducing Exposure to Sun & heat & Cooling Off)
Occupational Health and Safety Training for Farmworkers – Heat Stress Prevention and Sun Safety
This season the Occupational Health Clinics for Ontario Workers (OHCOW) is working with the US National Center for Farmworker Health in the field testing of educational materials. They have developed teaching materials specifically for teaching farmworkers about what they can do to prevent health problems due to heat and sun exposure.
We are looking for opportunities to provide this education to small groups of farmworkers on a small number of farms this season.
The educational material is in either English or Spanish and is taught by one of our two trainers.
There is no charge to the farm; however, we will need help with organization. Each class lasts approximately 25 – 45 minutes and can be scheduled when it is most convenient for both the farm and the farmworkers. The materials are designed for groups of approximately 10 people, so if there are more workers, more classes are needed.
